Early Life, Education and Occupation

Born in Nampong in Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh in 1960, Dr. Rita Chowdhury graduated from Cotton College. She did her M.A. in Political Science and Assamese and took Ph.D degree from Gauhati University.
She was an Associate Professor of Political Science at Cotton University (formerly Cotton College) Guwahati.
Later, she joined National Book Trust, India as the Director and made her remarkable contribution in the field of publication and promotion of books. She was the Fair Director of New Delhi World Book Fair and attended various international book fairs like London Book Fair, Paris Book Fair, Frankfurt Book Fair, World Book Fair Director’s Meet etc.
At present she is the Editor of the literary monthly magazine ‘Gariyoshi’ published from prestigious Sahitya-Prakash, The Assam Tribune Group of Publications.

Literary Career

Being a prominent Assamese novelist and poet, Dr Chowdhury’s popular novels are ‘Makam’, ‘Deo Lankhui’, ‘Mayabon’, ‘Abirata Yatra’, ‘Maha Jibanar Adharxila’, ‘Papiya Tarar Sadhu’, ‘Raag Malkosh’, ‘Jal Padma’, ‘Mayabritta’, ‘Mare Asom Jeeye Kon’ ‘Neverlands Zero Hour’ and many others. Some of her significant poetry collections are ‘Pratyaxar Swapna’, ‘Alap Poharar Alap Aandharar, Baga Matir Tulaxi’ etc. Awards and Recognitions:- Dr. Chowdhury was honoured with Sahitya Akademy Award for ‘Deo Langkhui’ and Asam Sahitya Sabha’s best Manuscript award for ‘Abirata Yatra’. A host of other awards were also offered to her for her extensive and varied compositions. Dr. Chowdhury has also been felicitated by many distinguished organizations and persons like Indian Overseas Chinese Organization, the Oxford Business School, the Assom Student Union (Assam) the King of Gobha (Assam) and many others. It is a great pride for Assam and this great author that many scholars did their Ph. D. works on her popular novels. Several Research papers on her novels have also been published in well-known journals.

Dream Project

This great author of our age has been rendering service to this contemporary society with her vision and mission of serving the humanity, giving voice to the voiceless and words to wordless. With these noble visions and missions , she founded ‘Adharxila’ on 29th January, 2012. This trust offers support to honour distinguished persons from various fields, Children Literature and Authors, organise regional, national and international literary, cultural and art festivals and exhibitions and above all, to encourage present generation and to act something in all probabilities in order to ensure a safer, stronger and solid social framework for the future generations. Since it’s inception, she has been acting as its the Managing Trustee.
